Our History The Diagne family came to Australia from Senegal. When he noticed that people eat out frequently in Sydney, Mohamed started saving money to start a restaurant. He decided to test the market with something called Order-a-Meal, which was an African food home delivery service. He started with deliveries in Paddington and surrounding areas, then expanded to other Eastern suburbs for the deliveries.
After the success of Order-a-Meal, Mohamed decided to take the next step and opened a restaurant opposite the corner of Oxford Street and Darlinghurst Road, called Afrilanka. This restaurant was very successful. Fifteen years later, he decided to move to the growing neighborhood of Newtown, opening the restaurant Kilimanjaro at 280 King Street.
Seeing the demand for African food, Mohamed decided to open another restaurant in Enmore, called Lat-Dior African Eatery, with a focus on a more casual and trendy atmosphere with dine-in and home delivery.
Our Food Just as there is no single Asian cuisine, African food is also diverse and exciting. We have always used fresh ingredients from Africa. Being difficult to obtain locally, the ingredients are imported directly from France, where there is a large established African community.
Our dishes are generally flavourful but mild, and they can be made hotter upon request. We pride ourselves on consistency of preparation and presentation. Our dishes are served the traditional way – in wooden bowls.
